Who and what are the Millennials or Generation Y?

They are Generation Curling in Sweden, Generation Serious in Norway, and even Generation John Paul II in Poland. The Chinese call them ken lao zu, or “the generation that eats the old”, and the Japanese have a term scolding them for not giving undivided attention to anything: nagara-zoku, “the people who are always doing two things at once”.

In the US they are called Millennials and in the UK and Australia they go by Generation Y. Around the world there is no shortage of descriptive labels for those born between 1980 and the mid-1990s. Whatever label we attach to this generation, the reason it exists is because of the challenges non-millennials face due to the changes and differences.

In this short interview Simon Sinek shares his views and insights based on research he has undertaken on Millennials in business:

Essentially whether we like it or not, in business we now have a responsibility to make up the gap. And help this amazing, idealistic, fantastic generation build their confidence, learn patience, learn the social skills, find a better balance between life and technology because quite frankly we believe it’s the right thing to do.
